The expertise centre ITEM operates at the convergence of research, counselling, knowledge exchange, and training activities in the domain of cross-border mobility and cooperation. The countries of the European Union face major challenges both today and in the future as a result of the increasing globalisation of the economy and internationalisation of society. ITEM is an interdisciplinary institute that was founded by Maastricht University in collaboration with the Zuyd University of Applied Sciences, NEIMED, the province of Limburg, the city of Maastricht and the Meuse-Rhine Euroregion.
As project partner, ITEM contributes to the EMRLingua project in two ways. Firstly, ITEM analyses the legal obstacles for teachers who work in a neighbouring country of the Meuse-Rhine Euroregion. Secondly, ITEM compiles a research report on existing needs and shortages in the domain of language and intercultural education in the Meuse-Rhine Euroregion.
